"Growing up in the Sierra-Curtis neighborhood in the 60's and 70's I learned a lot about tolerance and equality having friends and neighbors of all races. Later when my friend Suzanne's baby was born I searched for a baby gift that reflected her European and African-American heritage. I couldn't find anything. As Alisha grew, I looked for books that would tell a story with a lead character similar to her. Again I came up empty.  This planted the seed for the need for products and images that affirm multiracial people and families.  Now that I am in my own interracial marriage and have a 2-year-old daughter, I want to help her celebrate who she is and who we are as a family. David and I both enjoy giving parties so the idea of a festival seemed like a natural,"  The Festival is an opportunity to say thank you to Sacramento and all of its residents who help create a supportive environment for the many multiracial people and families who live here including my own."
