GLOBAL FAMILY FESTIVAL JURIED ART EXHIBITION

On September 28, 2002, Sacramento's first Global Family Festival will celebrate multiracial families, people and communities. Located at the Sierra 2 Community Center, the festival will have good music, good food and educational and fun activities for all ages.  A juried art exhibition will also be part of this exciting one-day festival.

The Festival Call to Artists requests art specifically about multiracial identity and families and also the broader themes of ethnicity, commonality of all humanity and racial harmony. Art will be juried the day of the festival.

JUROR - JUANISHI OROSCO
Well-known California artist Juanishi Orosco will be a juror for the Global Family Festival Art Exhibition. A founding member of the cultural collective known as the Royal Chicano Air Force (aka Rebel Chicano Art Front, or RCAF), established in 1970, Mr. Orosco is known for his vivid murals depicting his Mexican, Chicano and indigenous cultural roots. Mr. Orosco is also an arts educator providing outreach and training to hundreds of young artists throughout Northern California.

JUROR - MORRIE TURNER
Based in Berkeley, CA, the Oakland native Morrie Turner is a California Public Education Hall of Famer.The creator of the first truly integrated comic strip, Wee Pals.  His work pivots upon the issue of sensitivity to others. Awarded numerous awards for his work in cartooning, Morrie Turner's KID Power, Rainbow Club, Wee Pals characters are used to promote brotherhood & multi-culturalisim. Long before 'Multi-Culturalism' became the politically correct catch phase of the `90's Wee Pals presented that message as early as 1965.

DISPLAY
All space is open-air. There is no rain date.
Exhibit space measures 10 feet by 10 feet. Two artists may share a single space.
Artists may sell all of their art regardless of theme but only themed pieces will be judged.
A table will be provided. Artists must provide all other booth structures, display materials, and backdrops.

SALES
At day of festival,  20% of all proceeds will be collected. (Artists are responsible for collecting and filing California sales tax. To obtain your resale license, please call the California State Board of Equalization at 916-227-6700.)

APPLICATIONS
This application must be received by September 10, 2002. Additional copies of this application can be found at our web site at here.

LIABILITY
All event producers and sponsors and their associates assume no risk. By acceptance of this agreement, the Exhibitor and all associates expressly release the Promoters and their associates from any and all liability for any damage, injury, or loss to any person or goods which may arise from the rental and occupation of said space by Exhibitor. Exhibitor agrees to hold and save the Producers and their associates harmless of any loss or damage by reason thereof.

FEES
No registration fee. At day of festival,  20% of all proceeds will be collected. 

ARTWORK SPECS
Art will be judged the day of the event using the actual piece.
Artwork must be the original work of the submitting artist
Artists may submit up to three pieces for jury

SCHEDULE
Application must be received by September 10, 2002
Late entries may be accepted, space permitting
Artist Setup is 7 to 9 a.m., September 28, 2002

Judging begins at 9 a.m. Please be fully set up by that time to be included in the judging.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to  5 p.m.
